Selection notes
Old is a condition, not a quality mark
I look at fibre and hide quality, seams, closures, lining, sole construction, repairs and the way wear has developed. Age alone proves very little. A well-used jacket with sound leather may be more useful than a cleaner-looking one whose coating is already failing.
Made to be used
Stitching, hardware, soles, pockets and stress points are checked for practical use and repairability.
Nothing quietly hidden
Vintage is used. Patina, repairs, stains or damage should be visible in the current marketplace photographs and description.
Measurements beat the old label
A vintage size label is a starting clue. Standards changed, brands cut differently, and previous owners sometimes altered garments. Current listings therefore need actual measurements.
Read the condition notes and compare the listed measurements with a garment you already own.
